Hey guys! Merry Christmas. The podcast date fell on Christmas day this year and I considered whether or not I should record an episode and I was like, you know what, why not? Because I think it's a rare opportunity to be able to suggest to you that this is the time to take a backseat, to take a few days off.
The video industry has gone hard all year and this year. It's important that you have some downtime. It's been a rough year for a lot of people. Some industries have gone very well. Many industries have struggled and that has a knock on effect to the video industry. But this too shall pass and you've worked hard this year.
Even if business hasn't been as good as you'd hoped you haven't given up and that's the main thing. So let's dive into that today.
Welcome to the Video Business Accelerator podcast. Each week, we uncover the secrets to creating a wildly successful and scalable video production business with your host, Den Lennie. Hopefully, thanks if you're listening to this on Christmas day, Merry Christmas. If you're listening to this a few days later, I hope you had a really peaceful, jolly time. Ate some nice food, drank some good wine. And what's really cool about this time of year is it just gives you an opportunity to wind down, to decompress and, just spend some time with family.
Now by Boxing Day or the day after you might be hard to add enough of that. So you'll get out to the garden or do whatever it is you do to unwind. Here in Australia this time of year it's been raining a lot, it's sunny a lot, so I'll almost certainly be out cutting the grass at some point later today.
This time of year you need to cut it twice a week and we've nearly two acres, so that takes about three hours. But it's great because it's a chance to listen to audiobooks, listen to podcasts, and just touch base with yourself, have a bit of alone time. I wanted to say thank you for listening. We've been doing this for a little while now, We're up to 350 plus episodes and it's a really important outlet for us to be able to communicate what's going on in the world of video and business with you.
But we couldn't do it without you listening. So thank you. We are hoping to grow this podcast more this year. It's something that I think is a very powerful free resource and helps a lot of people just get some clarity on their thoughts. And the reason that we do all of this is to support videographers who are transitioning into business or looking to grow their business to create an environment, to create a community that allows them not to feel so alone.
And we've seen a lot of great success stories over the years and I find this time of year is a great time to reflect and be grateful and appreciate that no matter how hard this year may have been for you hopefully you still have your health, you have your family's health.
And, business is just one arm of you and the world's been doing it tough for a while now, although the interest rates are high, there's a lot of pressure on families and a lot of families are doing it quite tough. But, we get to choose how we respond to that, and I think this is the one time in the year where, regardless of what's going on, the majority of the world and video shuts down for at least a week.
So you get that opportunity to just unwind, and take some time out. And think about next year, think about how you want to do next year differently. Think about what's worked this year and what hasn't and where do you feel the most joy in the things that you do and how can you do more of that next year.
Because the great payoff of being in business is you get to choose your own adventure, you get to choose your own destiny. Now, there's not necessarily an easy path. In fact, it's far from easy. But you've had successes and think about this, you've already 10x'd your life. If you think back to your very first job and think to where you are today, you have more than likely 10x'd your life.
So you can do it again. And I have a strong philosophy that whilst revenue and finances are an important part of business, it's not the only thing. I'm not the kind of person who's only interested in making shitloads of money. It's not for me. What's important to me is time, presence, being able to spend time with people I really care about, and enjoy good food, good wine, and I get to live in a beautiful country, in a beautiful climate, and we're fortunate we live on two acres, and it's a dream come true.
But it took 14 years of effort to get there. And so I want to just keep this short and sweet and just remind you that you are exactly where you need to be in your journey and you're doing great. And if you had challenges this year they are just wonderful lessons to take you into next year and they're going to support you to make next year even better.
But for now please do enjoy the time off, relax, and reflect a bit on you know what you achieved this year and what you learned. Just know that next year's gonna be a greater year because of the lessons you learned from this year. So Merry Christmas and I will talk to you very soon.
